Sun Screen for your Skin

If you are like me, you might have skin that reacts to the sun.  Whether its rashes, hives, sunburn or sun poisoning you must protect your skin from the sun to prevent these reactions because the effects of this damage can crop up long after your skin is no longer irritated.

I have tried so many things to protect my skin.  Some work but stain your clothes.  Some work but smell awful.  Some work but irritate my skin.  So Below I have some of my favorite products and why I like it.  If you want to give any of these a try click on the picture, you will be taken to the place where I purchase it.

There are 3 types of UV rays:

UVA:  Which has the longest wave length

UVB: Has the mid length wave length   and

UVC:  Which has the shortest wave length

Although it may seem backwards, the shorter the wavelength and the lower the number, the greater the energy level of the light and the more damage it can do.

The longer wavelengths of UVB and UVA pass right through the atmosphere, even on a cloudy day. That's why you can still get sunburned on a cloudy or hazy day. The molecules in sunscreens absorb most UVB and prevent it from reaching the skin just as the molecules of the atmosphere absorb UVC and prevent it from reaching the ground.

What are sunscreens?

A primary goal of sun protection is the prevention of sunburns, but that is not its only goal. Incremental damage to the body occurs with each exposure to UV radiation, even exposure that does not produce redness or burning. This damage is cumulative with time and the magnitude of exposure. Over the years, total time in the sun is reflected by wrinkles, blotchy pigmentation, and with enough exposure, skin cancer. iconicon

Chemical sunscreens block the penetration of UV radiation through the epidermis by acting as filters and absorbing and reflecting high-energy UV. The sunscreen molecules absorb high energy UV photons, but a certain amount of UV light will enter the epidermis -- as no chemical sunscreen blocks 100 percent of all UV radiation.

What is the difference between a sunscreen and a sunblock?

The terminology used on sunscreen labels can be confusing. The protection provided by a sunscreen is suggested by the SPF listed on the product label. A sunblock is considered to be any sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more. In theory, sunscreens protect a person during an incident of UVB radiation exposure according to the following:

  •      SPF 15 sunscreens may absorb more than 92 percent of UVB radiation.

  •      SPF 30 sunscreens may absorb 96.7 percent.

  •      SPF 40 sunscreens may absorb 97.5 percent of UVB radiation.

Last Year when I was in Arizona, I forgot to bring my usual sun screen and lip balm.  I at an attraction in Sedona I found samples of  Arizona Sun Products.  I've been hooked ever since.  Not only do they have a lot of sun screening products, but they don't stain and have just a small amount of scent - and that is just a "fresh" type of scent.  The lip balm is just like a sip of cool lemonade!  Here are some of the products I just love and even got gift packs for others.
